Apple has released a Java update that will remove the FlashBack malware if your Mac is infected.

This Java security update removes the most common variants of the Flashback malware.

This update also configures the Java web plug-in to disable the automatic execution of Java applets. Users may re-enable automatic execution of Java applets using the Java Preferences application. If the Java web plug-in detects that no applets have been run for an extended period of time it will again disable Java applets.

Piriform’s popular Windows tool CCleaner is now out of beta and available for Macs. We took it for a test drive on our Mac running OS X 10.7.2 and came back with some good results.

CCleaner can scan your Mac OS X applications and web browser and will clean out any unnecessary amounts of cache that may have accumulated over time. For example, my Google Chrome web browser has nearly 750MB in cache!

CCleaner can also uninstall programs, repair permissions and erase free space on your disk.

CCleaner is still a bit behind other cleaning tools like CleanMyMac but it is free. We’d also suggest checking out Onyx for much more features, but if you just want a quick cache clean-up, at only 5.1MB CCleaner does a great job.

Unfortunately this isn’t on the Mac App Store so you’ll have to get it here.

Apple has announced and released many great, new innovative tools and software today.

Apple has announced iBooks 2. iBooks 2 allows iPad owners to read interactive books create by the iBooks Author program which was also released today.

iBooks Author is a free program available through the Mac App Store that allows anyone, including textbook publishers to create interactive books easily. It can embed photos, video and other elements easily to really make future books interactive and more fun to read. Check out the video:

To sync these new interactive books you’ll also need to download iTunes 10.5.3 which came out this morning.

Apple has also updated iTunes U and it has turned it into a full-fledged app with the ability to replace basic course needs.

Prior to iTunes U, only students in the classroom at that time had access to educational content from top universities. With the iTunes U app for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, those barriers no longer exist. Students anywhere can take an entire course with complete access to all course materials right at their fingertips. With the iTunes U app, students are able to access new books right from within the app, and any notes taken in iBooks® are consolidated for easy reviewing. In addition to reading books, viewing presentations, lectures and assignment lists, students can receive push notifications so they always have the latest class information.

Independent electronic music retailer Beatport has launched a new desktop application called Beatport Pro. It is currently in beta but is running quite smoothly for us.

Beatport is the go-to store for electronic music enthusiasts and DJ’s seeing as they sell not only MP3′s but uncompressed WAV and AIFF versions as well.

It has a very nice iTunes feel to the layout with most of the essential menus on the left and the content in a larger column on the right. It utilizes tabs (like in your web browser) to keep things clean and organized. Basically, it a smooth desktop client that has all the features of their online site without having to open a web browser, which we love.

Apple has moved its professional digital audio workstation Logic Pro 9 to the Mac App Store for only $199.99.

Logic Pro 9 is a complete set of creative tools for any musician who wants to write, record, edit, and mix music. It comes with a massive collection of instruments, effects, and Apple Loops, making it easy to get amazing sounds and create amazing-sounding songs.

The download is only 413MB. The DVD version came with about 30GB of material so it’ll be interesting to see what was taken out.

UPDATE: As noted in the comments, there is an additional 19GB to download afterwards.

MainStage has also been moved to the Mac App Store and is only $29.99.
