Apple has subtlety hinted that Macs would be getting Retina Displays at some point but it looks as if that target is next year if the clues in the 10.7.3 beta are any indication.

As you can see above, an option in the “Get Info” option box now says “Open in HiDPI mode” which will be what Apple calls this new Retina Display resolution.

The 15″ Macbook Pro is rumored to be receiving a 2880 X 1800 resolution which doubles the resolution in each direction.
