Netkas is reporting that he has found traces of code that point to a new, next generation AMD graphics cards that would only work in the Mac Pro’s in the OS X 10.7.3 beta. The AMD 7000 series is codenamed “Tahiti” which is due out early next year.

In previous years, Apple would release full hardware upgrades instead of just selling graphics cards and adding support for them, so many are predicting that it is the Mac Pro’s time to finally receive an update. Currently, it is the only Mac capable of running this desktop graphics card.

The Mac Pro is rumored to possibly be discontinued but it seems Apple may breathe new life into it with this new discovery. Let’s also hope for some Thunderbolt support!
