If you’re always on the move chances are you are tethered to your iPhone or other smartphone for internet and you likely have a monthly cap (which sucks). Wouldn’t it be terrible if Software Update downloaded a huge update in the background while you were tethered? Well here’s how to turn that feature off in OS X Lion.
- Open ‘System Preferences’
- Under ‘System’, open the ‘Software Update’ menu
- The “Check for Updates” box is likely checked, which is fine
- The box below it though that says “Download Updates Automatically” needs to be unchecked
Of course, if you’re only connecting to normal, unlimited internet (basically not to your smartphone) this may not apply.
