Time Inc. has reportedly struck a deal with Apple allowing their print subscribers to download the digital versions through iTunes at no extra charge. The magazines are Time, Sports Illustrated and Fortune and this feature should be available starting Monday.

At this moment there is almost no other magazines that allow the same print/digital cross subscription. It is unclear if Apple gets any sort of cut or if subscriptions will increase in price to compensate.

It will be interesting to see how Apple will expand this to other publications or if they get a percentage of the profit from downloads. This will undoubtedly lead to a higher numbers of subscribers and it’s great to see a little glimpse of what the future of print publications may be.
