Bloomberg is reporting that Kodak is trying to receive more than $1 billion in royalty payments from Apple and RIM. The patent involved has to do with previewing an image on a camera phone.
Chairman and CEO Antonio Perez stated that Kodak “deserves to win” and there is “a lot of money, big money”. Kodak has won a similar case against Samsung and LG previously for the same patent bringing in nearly $1 billion.
Currently, Apple and RIM are in a good spot seeing as a judge dismissed this case previously in January but at 5 PM Washington time today, the ITC will be reviewing that judge’s findings.
Argus Research analyst Jim Kelleher stated the following:
It would be important for Kodak to get a favorable ruling on this matter because most of its operating businesses lose money whereas intellectual property royalties go directly to the bottom line
We’ll update with the final decision when it’s revealed.
